I Do Not Have a Foul Mouth…

…at least, on this blog. πŸ˜‰

The Blog-O-Cuss Meter - Do you cuss a lot in your blog or website?

Around 2.8% of the pages on my website contain cussing. This is 99% LESS than other websites who took this test.

Even though I try and keep the curse words out of my blog, this score still surprised me a bit; I didn’t think it would be high, but I thought it would be higher than 2.8%.

I could really get raunchy on this blog, if I wanted to. There are SO MANY times that I would LIKE to curse simply because I’m feeling passionate or upset about something or it simply gets my point across. But I don’t because I pride myself on my self-control and the fact that just because I WANT to say it, doesn’t mean I SHOULD.

I find this result amusing. Mainly because I’ve been known *cough* to, uh, curse a lot in real life. In fact, there are times I get so carried away even my teenage boys are asking me to bring it down a notch or two … or ten.

What about you — do you curse a lot on your blog? What about in real life?

  1. I don’t have a blog… I curse alot when I get frustrated at work, but try to bite my tongue at home since I have two kids around! lol

  2. I used to be very reserved with cursing and then I don’t know what happened! I turned into a Sailor. But in recent months I have toned it down a lot. Still need some work but I’m much better.

  3. I have this on my blog too. I do curse but I don’t put it in my blog. When I do curse I make sure that my son isn’t around at all. Or any child for that matter.

  4. I curse from time to time in everyday conversation at home (we don’t have kids so we let those profanities fly) but never on my blog. You never know who might stumble upon it and get the wrong impression!

  5. Yeah, sorry Karen…I’m a cussing, sailor type individual. Call it lack of an educated mind, I am unable to come up with a more suitable word. I do appreciate those who can express themselves to the fullest extent without cussing…I just think I make a better point when I cuss. =)

  6. I try to be in control and not use cuss words at all. I think all of us are a lttle guilty of cussing at times, but that’s no excuse. I’m a firm believer that cussing on our blogs turns some people away, so I try to not cuss at all. Besides, I do have family members who are christian and they don’t really like reading it, so I wouldn’t want to chase the biggest part of my readers, which happen to be family, away from my blog.

  7. Sorry about that, Rachel. It is an author persona, but I also try to stay true to my characters. If I’m writing about a rough and tumble, hard-hitting Harley riding, cigarette smoking woman, she wouldn’t exactly say, in the heat of the moment,

    “Good grief! That really stinks!”

    At least, not realistically. lol

  8. I never cuss on my blog – at least, I haven’t yet. πŸ™‚ I cuss poeple out in my head all the time, but I don’t actually say it! I do cuss out loud at times, but not too often.

I’ve noticed that cussing on your blog is pretty much limited to your fiction. I remember being shocked the first time I read some of your fiction because I’d never read that kind of language from you. I figured it was your author persona.

  9. I curse far too much in life and on my blog. It bothers me terribly, A few weeks back I read one of my own post and boy oh boy was I disappointed! After that I told myself to back way way off. Of course a little language is needed to punch a feeling thru, but it does turn people away I think and that’s never good. The difference between the two? well Iam not using a hammer and nail on the blog.
    Steady, steady, swing, ouch mother$#
