WW: Priceless Observation

Priceless Observation

Let’s be fair: maybe the guy was just walking by and saw Mrs. Obama and wanted a picture. Or maybe it’s not really a Blackberry, but some other cheaper version and the monthly plan is not as expensive as indicated. Or maybe the man really IS homeless and needs a cell phone so a temporary help agency can reach him.

Or maybe it’s more important to this man to have a phone than food. That’s his prerogative, his business, right?

Whatever the circumstances, it makes you think about priorities, doesn’t it?

  1. Unless the Government can issue out morality I’m not sure this can be addressed. Nothing easy about this and it breaks my heart at this time of year. But you have inspired me to go out today and do something for someone I don’t know. And I guess that’s a start. I smile at the bad and make it good.
    Thanks Karen.

  2. Or maybe, we as a society, should object to this considering WE ultimately foot the bill.

But to play the devil’s advocate, how can the government, realistically, differentiate between the ones that truly need help and the ones that are taking advantage of the system?

There’s no question that our welfare system needs to be re-evaluated. But how can we reform it without punishing those that need the help?

Not easy questions, but questions that need to be asked and addressed – this situation needs ATTENTION.

    Good points, Killpoke.

  3. You give this man to much room..go check out the food stamp line..I brought my Daughter in law there, one person was doodling with her lap top and at least four others were playing with their Phone ( how many others had the phone but not out for others to see). One man was yelling on the phone over the fact he was waiting so long for service.
Now I’m not saying right or wrong but it’s a obvious disconnect to priorities, needs and abilities. Maybe it is his prerogative to tout his phone in such a way as much as it is my prerogative to complain about it. The shelter is one thing as it is funded by donations. Food stamps are another as it is taxpayer funded. Its theft in my eyes…I could be wrong!
Maybe we as a society should adjust to this?

P.S My wife and I donate yearly to various organizations as well a volunteer at a homeless shelter in Chicago a few years ago so I understand and feel for those with less.

  4. Oooh, good one, Jen! Considering the Obama’s are camera happy, that is a definite possibility. (Sorry, couldn’t resist. *grin*)
