Give Me Five More Things to Do, Baby

Yay! A new meme to try out!

I was going to participate in Laura’s Menu Plan Monday because, I don’t know, it’s Fall and I think about cooking more when it’s cooler …

But then I saw this cute little meme and thought I would play along with this one this week …

So, hi Becca’s Buzz! I hope you have room for one more player!

This week? List five things you should do this week.

ONLY five? Uh oh … I’ll try to pare it down.

1. Get my haircut like Tina Fey.

I have a MAJOR girl crush on Tina Fey. LOVE that woman. So funny. So smart. So gorgeous! I watched Baby Mama on the treadmill last night (cute! But predictable) and I just fell in love with this woman’s hair. I could easily do the same thing with my hair – EASILY. In fact, we’re scheduled to have our family pictures taken this coming Sunday and I’m sick to death of my style-less hair. So, hopefully, by the time you read this, I’ll be at the salon getting it chopped, er, shaped up.

2. Work on my NaNoWriMo outline.

Seriously, I need to get on the ball here. It’s not that I don’t have an idea of what I’m going to write, I’m just savoring the moment, sort of like when you unwrap a piece of chocolate and you take a few moments to simply sniff it and appreciate it before popping it into your mouth. Oh wait, I don’t do that, but I COULD if I had the self control …

which I don’t. But let’s not talk about that little character flaw of mine right now. We’ll save that one for around the holidays. (I, uh, go a bit NUTS on the holiday goodies. *blush*)

3. Bug the ever-loving crap out of my husband for one of these ADORABLE babies.

What. You were expecting a picture of a cute animal or something? Pfft. Folks, you don’t know me very well. I get just as worked up over cute electronic gadgets as some people do over tiny dog clothes. It’s a sickness, I tell you!

I MUST HAVE ONE OF THESE MINI DELL 9’s!!!! I will have one. It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine.

4. Design a new blog design for a friend of mine.

She’s the president of our city’s PTA organization and she would like me to design a new template for their blog WHICH she plans on showing off at the State’s National PTA Annual Convention in a few weeks. *gulp* This could mean a lot more blog/school business for me if I play my cards right.

No pressure!!

5. Write a short story to submit to Glimmer Train.

This is a literary magazine I’ve been wanting to submit to for like, forever. In fact, I heard an EXCELLENT story idea on the radio this morning and I think it might just fit in with the Glimmer Train readers. I’m really excited to write about it – and submit it.

Wow. I had so much fun doing this meme! I need something like this to keep me on track.

Oh, and if you need a little Monday pick-me-up (because Mondays suck, no?), then you MUST watch these videos. Truly, if these videos don’t melt your heart and bring a tender smile to your face, then you’re not human.

Weekend Snapshot(s) – Marching Along

null
Share your weekend snapshot.

We attended our first high school football game (since the husband and I were in high school that is) Friday night and we had a blast!

MK’s band class had a chance to march with the high school marching band. The kids had an option of showing up for extra credit and to my surprise, MK was ALL over it. He very eagerly wanted to join in so, join in we did.

I got a late start on Friday because I ate three (!!) donuts and felt so guilty that I forced myself to do a 40 minute Turbo Jam. By the time I got cleaned up and back from grocery shopping, it was after 5:00 and I was supposed to have MK at the stadium to meet his class at 6:05 – and we hadn’t eaten.

So, we raced to McDonald’s (ick) and the kids stuffed crap down their throats while I squinted at a map and tried to get us to our destination. They were supposed to meet at a skate park across the street from the stadium – I didn’t even know there WAS a skate park!

After dropping him off, GD and I met up with the husband and we walked to the entrance. It was going to cost us $4.00 a piece to get in, but I remembered I had paid an athletic fee when we ordered GD’s name tag (because I was hoping we would get around to attending some games), so he was able to get into the game for free (bonus!). We got comfortable (or as comfortable as we could be given the rock hard seats – must remember to buy stadium cushions!) and had a good time watching the dance girls and the cheerleaders warm up and do some cheers while we waited for the marching band to arrive.

(I think GD really enjoyed that part. *wink*)

Then, the high school marching band marched onto the field. I actually got a lump in my throat watching MK marching right along with them. It was also really impressive to see the high school kids in their fancy marching uniforms.

Out on the field

They lined up and played the high school fight song along with the Star Spangled Banner.

Experiencing Being with a Big Band

If you look closely, you can see MK playing his saxophone (follow the arrow). His classmates were all dressed in their band shirts and black slacks – I thought they looked quite smart.

After they finished playing and were walking off the field, the boy on MK’s left slapped him on the back and told him he did a good job. I thought that was so sweet! And I bet that meant a lot to MK, too.

The band filed into the bleachers and the game started.

Within two minutes of the game starting, the opposing team ran a 75 yard touchdown.

And that set the precedent for the first half of the game. By halftime? We were down THREE TOUCHDOWNS. It was not a pretty sight. And not a very good introduction to GD’s first football game, but it didn’t matter. It was still fun to get caught up in the crowd and cheer for our team. In fact, GD was pretty stiff and awkward at first, but he soon relaxed and I could tell, he was actually enjoying himself – I’m so glad we did this.

The hubs snuck down to the bleachers to find MK during a time out and took a picture of MK and his best bud:

Best Buddies

I think MK looks so stiff because it was pretty chillly and he was freezing.

We stayed to watch the half-time show:

HS Marching Band

And WOW! The band was amazing! They stepped, marched and danced their way into all sorts of configurations all while the flag girls danced in between them. It was quite impressive.

Afterward, I asked MK if he was excited about participating in marching band.

“NO WAY!” he said.

I was disappointed. He didn’t think he would be able to keep track of all the moves as well as play and I’m sure it was HARD to do both! But I was a little disappointed as I was quite looking forward to him wearing one of those fancy-smancy uniforms.

Oh well. Maybe he’ll change his mind before next year.

Life

Honey Heaven

Isn’t it funny how you can drive by something a million times and STILL not really SEE it?

While the husband and I were out for our weekly lunch date (which I think we’re going to make bi-weekly from now on. Why? Because the husband said he’s lonely at work – no one really talks to him because he’s one of the bosses), he mentioned he wanted to stop by Honey Heaven. Don’t you love their logo?

“Honey what?” I said.

“Honey Heaven. They sell local honey.”

“OOokay,” I responded. “Good for them?”

“No, you don’t understand,” he said with a patient smile. “If you eat honey made from local bees, then you’re consuming the pollen. And when you consume pollen, your body doesn’t recognize it as something foreign and doesn’t trigger your allergies.”

“Ah.”

My responses really don’t get much more exciting than that. Now tell me that in WRITING and I can respond with a bit more thought, but verbally tell me something like this? And my brain shrinks back from the thought (get it?) of having to analyze the fresh information.

So, we went to Honey Heaven. And we were even more surprised that they served food there.

It was a really strange layout. You walk in the door and BAM, there’s the counter right in front of you. And to your left, is a small, but pretty, waiting room.

So, we’re standing there and I’m not seeing any honey. This place also boasted about having a live hive available.

No honey. No hive.

We were confused. But we were seeing a lot of activity behind the counter. So, I walked around the counter and began walking into the back.

“What are you doing? We’re not supposed to go back there.”

“There has to be more to this … come on.”

So, the husband followed me into the back. And we ran into a small, intimate restaurant sectioned off into small, pretty little rooms (think cute tea rooms), and a long twisted hallway.

We continued to walk down the hallway. We were met by quite a few people and no one sounded the alarm, so I assumed it was okay to be back there.

And then the husband found another room, in the very back of the building, jammed packed with honey products.

And a bee hive.

A very active bee hive.

We went to watch the little buggers (*grin*) work. The hive was encased in glass. And they had a pipe leading outside – that’s how the bees got in and out. One bee had flown in when the back door had been open and was busy trying to get into the glass hive.

I felt a bit sorry for him – he looked sad.

Okay, so I assume he was sad. I wasn’t going to get close enough to see his little bee expression.

We found a ton of honey products – all claiming they would help people with allergies. So, we walked out of there with a bottle of traditional “bear” honey, a tiny jar of bee pellets (which you’re supposed to eat?!) and bee jelly.

We ate some of the honey on our homemade butt rolls last night with dinner (I call them butt rolls because they are the yeast rolls that come in little balls and you place two of them side-by-side in a muffin pan and they raise up and look exactly like butt cheeks – YUM!) and it tasted … sweeter than normal.

I woke up today feeling stuffed up and my eyes were itching. The very friendly Honey Heaven sales person warned us that we shouldn’t consume more than a 1/4 teaspoon at first as it sometimes adversely affects people until they develop an immune to it. So I’m thinking maybe I had a little reaction?

The husband not only had a honey-drenched roll for dinner last night, but he sprinkled the honey pellets into his cereal this morning … and said they tasted like dirty feet.

HAHA. Yummy!

But, he said after they dissolved somewhat, he couldn’t taste them anymore.

I hope this helps with our allergies. We’re the kind of people who don’t go to the doctor until we’ve exhausted every healthy natural alternative and I would hate to have to take pills every fall.

We really liked Honey Heaven though and we’ll most likely go back and eat lunch there.

With the bees.

Who are actually quite friendly.

If you don’t try and decipher whether they are sad or not.

Abundant Life

Teaching: Tools for Basic Bible Study Part Six

Read part one, part two, part three, part four, or part five.

Every Sunday I provide videos and valuable links to the Truth or Tradition teachings. We’ve been following the Truth or Tradition teachings for many years now and they have truly blessed our family. We have found peace and happiness through our beliefs and we walk confidently for God. My hope, by passing on this information to you, is that what you find here, or on the Truth or Tradition website, will guide you to a better, more blessed and abundant life.

If you would like to read my views on religion and how we got started with the ministry, you can read this.

Let’s get started:

From the Bible Study Guide

A helpful suggestion is to make notes in our Bibles with pencil, because they can be changed later, and do not bleed through the paper like some ink does. Some people have a second Bible, a “study’ Bible, that they mark up as they study, and keep their first Bible more note free for meditative reading. Also, we should not just read passively, but ask questions as we read.

We are not in a position to obey God if we do not know and understand what He says
. Furthermore, we must remember that what to us upon first reading may just seem like the history of the Jews or simple events in the life of Jesus or Paul, is in fact God’s communication to us, and buried in the records are the great truths that God wants us to know so we understand Him, and life itself. We do not get points with God for reading the Bible if we do not understand it, or remember what we read. The Christian life is not like the game of horseshoes, where “close” is good enough. We need to know what God says and then live by it.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

(If this video will not play for you, you can find the original file on this page).

If you have any questions, or would like to learn more about God’s wonderful message, please visit the Truth or Tradition website. You can also keep track of the ministry through their Facebook page.

Next week, part seven. Thank you for visiting and God bless.

Can We Talk?

A Letter to All Viral Asshats

Dear Viral Asshat Wannabe,

Guess what I’m doing right now? Go on, guess. I’ll bet you’ll never guess what I’m doing right now.

I’ll give you a hint – it has something to do with computers, a lot of time and patience, and quite a few backup DVD’s.

Give up?

Fine, I’ll tell you – I’m reformatting my computer.

Well, one of them, anyway.

*sigh*

I DETEST people like you who have nothing better to do than sit around and think up viruses to cripple honest, God-fearing, hard-working people’s computers. Truly, you’re evil – and I bet you’re a lonely loser too, am I right?

I have a message for you and your viral society reject “friends” who create viruses:

Do NOT gloat. Do NOT think, for one minute, that just because I’m having to reformat, you win. Oh, contrare, you piece of dogshit … brace yourself because …

I don’t mind it.

That’s right. You read that correctly. In fact, I am actually going to thank you. Why? Because you’re doing me a favor – I LOVE a newly reformatted computer. Everything works super fast. It’s a chance to clean house and get rid of the junk files that I inevitably collect over months of browsing.

But most of all, it gives me IMMENSE satisfaction to zap your nasty, evil virus bytes to hell.

So, thank you, evil depraved f*cker. I will have a brand new computer very soon because of you.

In the meantime, you’re not slowing me down. Why? Because I have three computers, asswipe. My Dell (which was infected), my Antec, (which is a computer my husband built from scratch and is ROCK SOLID), and my laptop, (which is my close-personal buddy). So, I’m writing this entry on my Antec computer. I don’t use my Antec computer very often anymore, mainly because it’s running Windows 2000 and is a lot slower than my Dell, which is running Windows XP. But, it has never failed me and it’s an excellent backup.

So, suck my motherboard, slimebucket.

Oh, and if you still think you’re going to get some satisfaction out of the fact that I’m spending my Saturday reloading programs? Think again, reject, I ENJOY lining up my CD’s and reloading fresh copies of Word, PhotoShop, Dreamweaver, etc. because there is NOTHING like the smell of a fresh, virgin program.

But I suppose you wouldn’t know that smell, would you, you poor pathetic worm. What with you being cooped up in a windowless, trashy, dimly lit room with no one to keep you company save for the mirror tacked on the opposite wall.

The moral of this letter?

Get a life. You’re pathetic. Truly, it’s not attractive.

Sincerely,

A Geek Who Refuses to Be Infected … For Long.

ADDED: Well, my hard drive has been wiped clean. It sparkles – it’s so pretty. 🙂 I’m currently installing windows updates and sheesh it’s taking forever! My monitor is doing this weird flickering thing and the husband and I remembered, too late, that we had to install a driver for the video card when I first got this computer and of course, that’s gone now. Oops! We’ll have to do a little digging and find it again. Other than that, it’s slow going but I’m checking it in between duties so it’s not all bad, just time consuming! *yawn*

Saturday Photo Hunt

Saturday Photo Hunt – Sad

This week’s theme: Sad

This is still one of my favorite shots of MK. He was about three in this picture. He’s sitting in the corner of the kitchen and pouting. He had one of the most angelic toddler faces I’ve ever seen.

Happy Birthday, Son!
