Instant Messaging at Work??
Our IT guy set up instant messaging at work for us today.
We. Had. A. Ball. With. It.
Now. Instead of emailing gossip or venting about a patient that’s being a jerk to us (true story), we can send instant messages to each other!
I’m kidding. (Sort of).
We’re getting ready to try something different. I’m excited about it, but there are going to be some hiccups along the way – but if there’s one thing you can count on, it’s change.
Let me explain: part of my job is to pre-certify testing, MRI’s and CT’s. This means, I have to contact the patient’s insurance company and make sure they do not require a prenotification, or a precertification, before the patient has his/her test. If we don’t obtain this authorization before the patient has his/her test, it’s very likely the insurance will not pay their portion of the bill and the hospital will have to eat the cost because it was our fault for not getting the authorization.
This is stressful by itself, add in trying to find the time to do make the call, or sign onto an account online, in between patients, or worse, having to stop what we’re doing because we’ve worked a patient in for the testing and they can’t do the test until we have run the authorization request through the insurance company, and, well, IT GETS STRESSFUL.
Especially when the insurance company wants more documentation and/or denies it.
AWKWARD.
So. Management is looking at farming the precertification process to a department completely dedicated to the process. We’re the last clinic to get on board with this and we’re all REALLY excited about giving it up.
No really. I’m not being sarcastic – WE. ARE. SO. PUMPED.
But. We needed an effective, fast, and easy way to communicate with one another because ultimately, we’ll be still be the ones who make sure everything looks good before sending the final order to be processed and sent to the facility that is doing the test.
Enter instant messaging.
The IT guy got it loaded and working today, but not everyone’s is active. Mine is. And I played around with a few other girls that had theirs set up, but I’m mostly looking forward to giving the nurses a hard time. I work with some pretty awesome ladies and I can’t WAIT to tease them via IM.
Of course. I will be completely professional about it …
… most of the time. HA!
(Did I mention the program comes with all kinds of cutesy smiley faces?? Oh yeah … let the games, er, IM’s begin.)
Want It? Work for It. Otherwise, You’re a Moocher.
I really admire this family. They put themselves out there for scrutiny and criticism. They blog every day and every single member of the family is open and honest.
And get this, this family has been doing it for YEARS. Every day for YEARS.
You have to admire their discipline and dedication.
And yes. They make their living vlogging. But imagine, for just one moment, how HARD it would be to vlog EVERY DAY, for YEARS, then EDIT and UPLOAD … did I mention EVERY DAY FOR YEARS??
And yet. People go nuts on them with the jealous, demeaning comments. I will never understand WHY we penalize successful people in this country. Successful people work HARD for their money. That’s not a crime. They not only work hard, they remain consistent and determined, which are really are the three main ingredients to being successful in today’s world.
Anyone can be successful. If one is willing to work hard, all the time, and be patient, it will happen. It may take longer than your peers, but it will happen, one way or another, and at some point.
I’m glad this man and his family are successful. They deserve all of the rewards that come with that success. He works really hard, and that’s a GOOD thing. No matter what you hear in the media, working hard and being successful is a GOOD thing – never apologize for your success.
If people have a problem with your success, screw ’em.

Book Review: The Ugly Stepsister Strikes Back
My Grade: A-
Plot / Premise
Everyone knows how all those fairy tales go. The princess gets beautiful, nabs her prince, falls instantly in love, lives happily ever after and leaves her evil stepsisters in the dust.
But what happens when you’re the ugly stepsister and your obnoxiously perfect—read pretty, smart, and, worst of all, sickeningly nice—stepsister is dating the charming, tall, devastatingly handsome guy you’ve had a thing for since you were nine years old?
Quirky, artistic and snarky Mattie Lowe does not lead a charmed life. Her mother is constantly belittling her on Skype. Mercedes, the school mean girl, has made it her personal mission to torment Mattie. But worst of all? Her stepsister Ella is the most beautiful, popular girl in school and is dating Mattie’s secret longtime crush, Jake Kingston.
Tired of being left out and done with waiting for her own stupid fairy godmother to show up, Mattie decides to change her life. She’ll start by running for senior class president against wildly popular Jake.
Ella can keep her Prince Annoying. Mattie’s going to rule the school.
And no one, not even a cute and suddenly flirty Jake, is going to stop her.
My Thoughts
I’m really not that into YA, but I have been reading more of the genre lately. It’s refreshing to read about quasi-innocent characters and it often takes me back to my teenage years and reinforces how incredibly naive I was.
I can sum this story up in two words: cute and predictable.
I got this book for free – it’s one of the few I’ve downloaded free that I would have actually paid for.
The main character, Maddie (Tilly to those that love her), is absolutely adorable. She’s sweet, yet tough, wise, yet naive, smart, yet clueless, strong, yet vulnerable. She is funny (there are parts I literally chuckled at) and easy to relate to.
Like I said, there’s nothing unusual about this story – in fact, I sort of pictured a Disney movie in my head while reading it.
What I really liked about the story was the writing. And the tone. It was fresh, funny, and really well written. I felt like I was Maddie’s best friend, following her around and getting a pretty good glimpse of her personality, her issues and her thoughts. I empathized with the character and enjoyed everything about her. Ms. Wilson did an excellent job with characters, flow, tone …
It was an interesting, cute, fast read and I would definitely like to read more from Ms. Wilson.
