Audio Teaching: Prayer Matters / How the Devil has Derailed Christian Prayer
by John Schoenheit
God wants Christians to pray. He urges, even commands us over and over, to pray. We are to pray throughout the day about everything that is happening around us. “Be…faithful in prayer” (Rom. 12:12); “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests” (Eph. 6:18); “…in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Phil. 4:6); “Devote yourselves to prayer…” (Col. 4:2); “Pray continually” (1 Thess. 5:17). God has given us these clear commands, so how did it happen that the average Christian may only pray before a meal, or in an emergency or difficult situation, or perhaps to start a meeting? In this teaching, John Schoenheit examines how the doctrine that “God is in control” and “everything that happens is God’s will” has undermined prayer. The earth is a war zone, and when we pray we participate in the spiritual battle. Our prayers speak into existence the legal permission for God to act in our lives. Prayer takes time and energy, but it is vital if we are going to live blessed lives, so let’s get started immediately in praying throughout the day.
