A Touching Moment

My in-laws took us all out of dinner last night – we had Chinese.

They gave me a card that brought tears to my eyes. Here’s what it said:

For a Special Daughter-in-Law on her birthday

Before you married you-know-who
his life was fairly sweet.

But something wasn’t right somehow.
The guy was incomplete!

Then one day you came along
and everything soon changed.

He looked so extra happy,
people thought he was deranged!

At last he’d found his soul mate
and he truly was elated.

The floating hearts above his head
were ones that you created!

Once you tied the knot,
it got much easier to see.

That you were what was missing
from his family’s family tree!

Your husband thinks you’re awesome
and the rest of us do, too.

It’s plain to see,
we all agree …

…there’s no one quite like you!

Sweet, right? And then Kevin refused to sit by me at dinner.

I think his parents love me more than he does.

What Happens When You Give a Child Too Much Chocolate

Okay, this doesn’t necessarily happen when you give a child too much chocolate, this is what happens when you give MY child too much chocolate.

HA!

This is Dude. He’s about … 18 months? I have no idea what he’s doing but I’d guess he’s showing off. What really cracks me up is my nephew gets on the floor with him.

Kids are so funny. 😀

(Thanks for sending this to me, Dad. It totally made my day).

Homework Central

So apparently? I’m not enemy number for one for Dude, at least, not tonight.

Probably because he needed my help on a project for the class he absolutely hates this quarter – meteorology. (He told me he doesn’t hate the subject matter, but rather, all of the work the teacher piles on them. But his counselor DID warn him that it was a hard class, so it’s not like this is a big surprise).

He’s supposed to write a four-page critique on the movie, “Twister,” (which they watched together in class) and put it in an attractive format, complete with graphics. I suggested Microsoft Publisher, showed a few tricks on how to manipulate the template to look like he wanted and suddenly, I’m the boy’s best friend.

*sigh*

He even talked to me a bit tonight.

Don’t worry, I savored every last minute, I assure you.

This project is due tomorrow.

I wonder where he gets the procrastination gene from?

It can’t be me, I never procrastinate. *ahem*

I hope this “good will toward mom” lasts through the weekend, because him, me and Kevin are going to watch Jazz’s band compete in a marching band competition on Saturday and we’ll be stuck in the car together for nearly six long hours (three down there, three back).

The trip will be so much more pleasant if he’s not snarling at me.

I’m a Proud Daughter

My mother is so crafty – and I mean that in the actual arts and craft sense.

She can take an ordinary object and create something beautiful out of it. Take this rock for example:

Seriously. How cute is that?!?

She entered it in a special contest at our county fair and won 3rd place!

In fact, she entered 20 items total and won 18 ribbons! She astounds me because my mom does this every year and every year, she virtually OWNS the fair with her talent.

(Yes. I’m bragging. She’s awesome, okay?)

And even though she walks away from the fair every year with a pocket full of ribbons, she’s never won the big, purple Champion ribbon. (The Champion ribbons are the “Best-of-the-Best”).

Until this year.

Congratulations on your Champion ribbon, mom!!

Here’s what my mom said about her Champion-winning shawl:

But my proudest moment was when I saw the purple shawl I knitted. It not only had a first place blue ribbon on it, but it also had a Champion ribbon AND a Sponsors Choice Award attached to it. In all the years that I’ve entered my projects in the Fair, this is the first Champion ribbon I’ve ever gotten! And it’s the first Sponsors Choice Award too. Wow!

A lady that works at the Fair said that she was there when it was being judged, and the judge said that it was “perfect”! I won the Champion ribbon over all the knitted items in the whole section. That made me feel really proud.

That makes me really proud, too.

Congratulations mom!

Back in a Flash

I noticed my dad posted this on his Flickr account last night.

It’s my sister, with her pacifier, about 40 some odd years ago.

Is she is the epitome of cuteness or what!

And I don’t think I’ve ever seen this picture. Hhmm….

I’m taking the day off from blogging, (sort of). I have a ton of work to do and I seriously need to focus. So, I’m shutting you down Internet, please don’t take it personally.

I shall return shortly.

Happy Birthday, America!

Respect the Flag

My wish to America:

That we elect members of government who do not wish you harm and who work hard at making you stronger and more beautiful than ever.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation UNDER GOD, indivisible, with LIBERTY and justice for all.

Have a great fourth, everyone. Stay safe!
