Four days off? Whatever shall I do?!

How about BLOG!! How about stuff my face with Thanksgiving goodness? How about putting up the Christmas tree? How about finishing my Christmas shopping! (Don’t hate me). How about giving my house a good cleaning?

Let’s skip that last one.

In other words? I’ll think of something! 🙂

As promised, here is the first song for the Christmas season. I’m impatient – I can’t wait anymore.

And speaking of Christmas – I just found what I want for Christmas. I know, right??

Have a lovely day, friends.

Crazy, right? Watch how ugly the protesters are.

Talk about setting a good example for our children.

http://twitter.com/#!/writefromkaren/status/107882761108455424

Raised in a $1.5 million Barrington Hills, Ill., home by their attorney father, two grown children have spent the last two years pursuing a unique lawsuit against their mom for “bad mothering” that alleges damages caused when she failed to buy toys for one and sent another a birthday card he didn’t like.

Proof positive that people will sue over EVERYTHING. You can’t control how crazy people are, but it frustrates me that there are lawyers out there that take on these crap suits. I mean … come ON. Didn’t buy them the TOYS they wanted?!?

Give me a break.

That’s right – it looks like we might have a thief trolling our neighborhood. Kevin said he had read about people trolling neighborhoods and stealing packages. I don’t know, with certainty, if this is what happened, I filed a claim with FedEx that I never received the package (the tracking shows they dropped the package off on our front porch, but I never received it), so it’s possible they delivered it to the wrong house.

Or. Someone stole it.

I mean, it’s really not that big of a deal – they were only pillows, I’m just grateful it wasn’t something more expensive or more important, but still, it was $30 bucks.

I’m not taking any more chances. Any future packages will be delivered to the office from now on.

Hot topic on Twitter today. It’s a long-sleeved tee that says, “I’m too pretty to do homework so my brother has to do it for me.”

Yeah. Not exactly the message we want to teach our girls. At any rate, there was so much hoopla over it that JCPenney removed the listing.

Even though I’m annoyed with the buyer who approved this line of clothing, I can’t really fault them – they were only doing their job. They bought something that they thought people would buy. The fault really lies with the parents who BUY this crap thereby making a demand for it.

Parents: Stop buying sexist stuff like this and manufacturers will stop making sexist stuff like this.

*POOF* Problem solved.

http://twitter.com/#!/writefromkaren/status/108932919271227392

Our PTA clothing bank is open for business. Parents are instructed to pick up vouchers from their school offices and take those vouchers down to the Clothing Bank and pick out clothes for their children. They pass out vouchers to ensure that people walking in off the street can’t use the facility – it’s designed to help parents in the community who need the extra help.

I tweeted this because there was a huge discussion on the school district’s Facebook page last winter about how buses shouldn’t run on bitterly cold days and think of the poor kids who have to stand outside and wait for them.

Yes. I feel sorry for the kids who have to ride the bus in the dead of winter. BUT, winter comes every year and winter is generally pretty cold (duh), so parents, if your children have to wait for the bus, then PREPARE them by making sure they have coats, boots, gloves, etc. And if these parents can’t afford this winter wear on their own, then there are places like the Clothing Bank that can help.

There are NO EXCUSES not to prepare our children for something as predictable as winter. I get so annoyed with parents who act all indignant about these sorts of things when they can CLEARLY do something about it – MONTHS ahead of time, even.

Apparently, this university spent a lot of time on this report that pretty much spells out how much the stimulus DID NOT WORK – in fact, it had the opposite effect.

And our man-child president wants to introduce ANOTHER stimulus package?

What an unbelievably stupid man.

http://twitter.com/#!/writefromkaren/status/108963544824954882

There are no words for this one – it’s just horrifying that someone would take their own life like this.

http://twitter.com/#!/writefromkaren/status/108964686531264512

Kevin watched this video a lot today:

And then Dude said, “Isn’t it weird how much cat stuff is on the Internet?”

And I said, “Isn’t it weird how PASSIONATE cat people get whenever someone dares to criticize cats on the Internet?”

Come on, you know it’s true.

http://twitter.com/#!/writefromkaren/status/108965326389133314

‘Bout damn time someone made these punks pull their pants up.

http://twitter.com/#!/writefromkaren/status/108968129337630720

Newsalert has posted a chart from a Wall Street Journal blog titled “Recession and the Rich.” The chart, based on 2009 IRS figures, shows that the number of taxpayers reporting annual income over $1 million fell 39 percent between 2007 and 2009; the number of super-wealthy individuals making over $10 million annually plunged 55 percent.

The carnage wasn’t confined to millionaires. The number of taxpayers earning over $200,000 per year also decreased by 612,000 – or 13 percent.

Soooo, question – if making the rich pay more is the Democrats’ big plan to bring our economy back under control, what happens when there aren’t any rich people anymore?

Then what?

What’s the big plan then?

I’m just asking.

SOC: Nerves of Steel

http://twitter.com/#!/writefromkaren/status/102820484793643008

This is the second time I’ve taught someone how to drive. The first time was my first son, this second time is my second son.

I’m way more nervous with my second son.

Dude, my first born, was, is, a cautious driver. He takes his time. He pays attention to what’s happening around him. He’s probably too cautious, which is a problem by itself, but Jazz, my second son, is reckless, impatient, slams on the breaks, followed by the accelerator and is not detail oriented. In other words, he doesn’t pay attention to the small stuff, or the big stuff, like that cherry red dual-wheel monster truck coming right at us.

One of Jazz’s friends called him up today. He wanted him to come over and hang out for a few hours. Even though I was thrilled that he wanted to get out of the house and hang with an actual human (as opposed to the virtual humans in his computer), it meant that I had to drive him over there.

Or more accurately, that he had to drive himself over there with me hanging on for dear life.

It’s not that he’s a BAD driver, per se, he’s just a NEW driver.

He backed out of the driveway for the first time today. Reverse is always the most challenging; it’s also the most nerve wracking. The car feels different in reverse, it handles different in reverse and it’s much harder to anticipate what could go wrong in reverse.

The biggest lesson I taught Jazz today was that it’s not always necessary to press on the accelerator. There are times that a nice, SLOW, simple coast is all the car requires in order for it to do what you want it to do.

He had a lot more control after I taught him that lesson.

Today was the first time we drove on busier streets. He did fine, though he still has a problem gauging how close to get to a stop sign, or a stop light before coming to a full stop. Often times, we’ve missed our mark.

Still though, I’m a much better teacher than Kevin – I’ve mastered the fine art of hiding my terror.

*ding* Time’s up.

I never realized just how BAD our roof has gotten. What’s funny is that we were just talking about how we need to start THINKING about getting a new roof when this guy cold calls us and now?

http://twitter.com/#!/writefromkaren/status/2813467216052224

We’ve started the process. They’re supposed to call and schedule a time to come out. It’s only supposed to take two days to complete and let’s hope they’re right because …

http://twitter.com/#!/writefromkaren/status/2844920184315904

… and what a bummer that would be to have all of that construction in our yard that our Thanksgiving guests would have to walk around in order to get to the food.

At least they would work up an appetite, right?

http://twitter.com/#!/writefromkaren/status/2814912380272640

I’ll be honest, I was a little concerned about Kevin getting back on that riding lawn mower. Not that the thing has ever bucked him off or anything, but, well, the man was immobile from his motorcycle accident for a few months and I’m a little wary of anything that he rides that doesn’t have four steel walls to contain him in.

He did great. I’m a worry wart. I’ll get over it.

By the way …

http://twitter.com/#!/writefromkaren/status/2821122949128192

Seriously. Just run over the things, it’s so much easier than bagging.

http://twitter.com/#!/writefromkaren/status/2824359437668352

Dude and I went out to the backyard the other day and took some pictures. It’s unbelievable that he’s going to be 18 next week.

I can’t wait to order his graduation announcements. I plan on going through Tiny Prints … I’d order them now, but they haven’t updated their stock dates yet (I need 2011, not 2010).

Getting ready to make meatloaf for dinner. I love the meals where I can literally slap ingredients together and shove it in the oven.

Oh, one more thing …

http://twitter.com/#!/writefromkaren/status/2847015130107904

That’s my mood right now. Just …. whatever, you know?

So yeah, that’s all for today. If you feel compelled, you can follow more of my random, lame tweets over here:

Here’s a summary of my week so far:

Capture1

Seriously. I scoff at people when they say “I don’t have time,” but honestly, I don’t have time. I’m working on a new web design and I’m under deadline.

Capture2

I did, too. Now I hope that everyone that owes me money will pay me. *hopeful smile*

Capture3

Jazz was NOT happy. I’M not happy. This class is right in the middle of the day. How annoying. BUT, by the time he gets out, it will be time to go swimming (the younger kids leave the pool at 3:00), so that’s a plus. He really doesn’t have a choice, he HAS to take a summer course so he doesn’t get behind his peers and PE is really the best choice – this way, he won’t have PE for ten/eleven weeks (it’ll only be four) AND he won’t have to dress out in front of his peers – he can just go to class IN his PE clothes. Bonus!

Capture4

Our weather has been phenomenal lately. Too bad I’m stuck inside, working. (*whine-whine* I know, like everyone else in the world, right?)

Capture5

I drank too much caffeine in an attempt to stay more alert for this project and now? I’m detoxing and paying for it. Ugh.

Capture6

I’d like to go, but Kevin is meeting his boss to go to the minor league baseball opening game tonight and there is no way I’m going by myself so … but that’s okay, I’m not sure how I feel about the fair tax proposal at this point. How do you feel about it?

Capture7

Capture8

I’ve been on a walking kick again. I’m tired, but I’m seeing results – my pants are a feeling looser again.

Capture9

I’m on season 5 – the part where Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sahid (sp?) and Sun go back to the island.

Capture10

I’m trying really hard not to be stressed about this project, but designing new projects stresses me out so …

So yeah, that’s all for today. If you feel compelled, you can follow more of my random, inane tweets over here:

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it’s back to work I go.

Twitter-esque: Catching Up

Because I have nothing else to blog about, here are a few of my favorite tweets from this past week:

(I amuse myself, hush).

Capture1

~ Listen up wordpress.org users: hackers are on the loose and breaking blogs. Upgrade and secure today: http://bit.ly/3qjgL3 (via @inkyelbows)

~ Does anyone else burp out loud and like a sailor whenever he/she is alone? I’m just askin’. I don’t DO that, of course. *cough-burp*

~ I’m itching to write. There must be something wrong with me. Or maybe I have a rash. That sounds more plausible, actually.

~ I feel skinny! ……………. Oh, I have my fat jeans on. Rats.

~ And just for the record, I do not heart gummy bears. I don’t know, I think it’s the whole I’m chewing on plastic thing. http://bit.ly/2TOoHE

~ Personally, I don’t have a problem with my kids watching Presidential address – it’s a good lesson on independent, and critical, thinking.

~ Since youngest will be marching at several football games, I bought a sweatshirt w/ school logo to show support. Yep, I’m THAT mom.

~ The whole slapped my kid in WM thing: I don’t know how that woman didn’t go mental on that man. I’d be all Jerry Springer in 0.2 seconds.

~ Just call me marching mom. Yo, waz up. *nod, lip curl*

~ And we wonder why women are STILL not taken seriously: http://bit.ly/13EWZV Duh.

~ Man, I hope my kid gets his marching band uniform today or I’m going to be seriously bummed. (I know! I’m trying to get a life, lay off).

~ “Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent.” Adam Smith

~ Well crud-o-la. Son didn’t bring his uniform home. They had practice and didn’t have time to hand out. NOW what am I going to obsess about.

~ And yes, I’m working in between Tweets. Or is that tweeting in between working? I get confused.

~ In case you’re interested – this is the site I’ve been working on: http://sps.k12.mo.us/field/

~ By the way parents, have you seen this cool Stop Bullying Now! website?

~ What a fun night! My ears are still ringing, but wow, Kevin played great. I think that was the best he’s played. Now I’m dead. ‘Nite.

~ Reading my Google Reader from the bottom up. Do you do that? I do that because I feel sowwy for the lower-letter peeps – they get forgotten.

~ There is nothing like soft, gooey donuts and fresh, tart juice to make a Saturday morning complete. Mmmmm …

~ I’m sitting here with wet hair waiting on a bathroom to open up — who knew teenage boys could take so long in the shower? (?!?)

So yeah, that’s all for today. If you feel compelled, you can follow more of my random, inane tweets over here:

What am I going to do now? Well, I’m going to wash the boys’ sheets, then wash bathroom rugs and mop floors, then I’ll take a nap (cause I didn’t sleep worth a crap last night), and then I’m going to write, and pre-post, blog posts for this next week so I can actually get some REAL work done and not obsess over “What am I going to blog about today?!”

Have a great Saturday, ya’ll. Talk to you soon.
