I don’t even know if I can call myself a Republican after this latest fiasco with Congressman Akin … I think I’ll jump over that fence and become a Libertarian.

(Seriously – if you thought, for even one split second I was going to say jump over the fence and become a Democrat, you don’t know me AT ALL).

I am so disgusted with this whole disaster I don’t even know where to start.

I guess, first of all, HELLO!! I’m from Missouri, ya’ll. You know, the state with the guy who said that women’s bodies are capable of somehow preventing a pregnancy whenever a legitimate rape occurs?

Yeah. That guy.

*sigh* Though there is NO disputing this dude said a really stupid, ignorant thing, the fact of the matter is – EVERY ONE SAYS STUPID THINGS FROM TIME-TO-TIME. Hell. Look at our current vice president:

The point is, people say stupid things. A lot of times, we KNOW what they’re trying to say, we just CHOOSE to pick it apart, hold it up for all to see and slap a stupid label on the person who said it. (Though, arguably, Pelosi IS pretty stupid – seriously).

Look. I’m not defending Akin. His comment was stupid, thoughtless and incredibly ignorant. But honestly folks, did it really warrant THAT big of a reaction? WHY are people SO obsessed with rape, abortion, and birth control? I mean, sure, these are important issues, but they’re not the ONLY issues. In fact, I would argue we have more pressing issues to be worried about right now – like our MASSIVE DEBT, (seriously, have you stopped to THINK about how much money we owe?? And to whom we owe it??). What about our crappy unemployment rate? What about all of these programs the government is trying to cram down our throats in an effort to control more of our lives?

What about these crazy shootings in Chicago right now?

What about the fact that we have a government “panel” deciding on how many times Medicare patients can be admitted to a hospital in one month’s time? (What do you think is going to happen now? 1. Hospitals will be reluctant to admit a patient if they have exceeded the three times in a 30 day period thereby postponing care to those who need it, or 2. they will simply keep patients longer in order to avoid having to re-admit them thereby costing the taxpayers WAY more money than is necessary … STUPIDITY! This is what happens when you give the government control over your life – they have the power to give it to you and to take it away. You’re at the mercy of the government. Are you telling me you’re OK with that?? Because I’m sure as hell am not okay with that.).

In the whole scheme of things, does it really matter what one lone, seemingly obscure congressman from Missouri said?

And the way the Republican establishment completely went berserk over this was REALLY disappointing. I’ve been pretty disgusted with the Republican establishment for quite some time, but this latest “outrage” is just too much.

“Oh my gosh, we’ve gone and made the Democrats angry … we mustn’t have that! QUICK! Apologize before we have to grow a f*cking backbone and stand up for what is right.”

PANSY ASSES!!!!!!! What a bunch of spineless jellyfish. I can’t believe the number of republican heavy weights who have been calling for Akin to step down so they can put someone THEY choose, NOT THE PEOPLE, BUT THE REPUBLICAN ESTABLISHMENT CHOOSES, in his seat instead.

The man said something stupid. There are many, many, MANY stupid politicians out there that say stupid things … it doesn’t mean he/she is a not right for the job, it just means they put their foot in their mouth – we’ve all done that. It’s when they consistently say stupid things that you have to wonder if they’re right for the job (*ahem* Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi).

If anything, Akin has been consistent in his belief. It’s no secret Congressman Akin is Pro-Life. The thing that baffles people is, he’s Pro-Life under ALL CIRCUMSTANCES. He’s not only Pro-Life when life is rosy and good, he’s Pro-Life when life is ugly and horrific, too. Like when a woman is raped and incest occurs. Congressman Akin’s stance is this: Just because a woman is raped or incest occurs does not make it right for the fetus to be aborted. Just because the conditions of the conception was horrific and terrible to talk about, does not make the baby any less human – it’s still a baby and still deserves to live – the baby is an innocent victim from a horrible conception. I understand where Akin is coming from. I can even respect the fact that he’s consistent in his beliefs, as opposed to what other Republicans believe, “abortion is wrong, unless a woman is raped or a victim of incest.”

Either abortion is wrong, or it’s not wrong, you can’t have it both ways. There are no conditions – a fetus is a fetus no matter what circumstances it happens under.

At any rate, I can see where Akin is coming from. And though his statement about a woman’s body being able to ascertain whether or not a conception was violent or not desired and then to take appropriate actions is insane, at least he’s not putting conditions on his beliefs, like a lot of Republicans do, “abortion is wrong, unless the woman has been raped or in an incestuous relationship.”

If anything, Akin needs to get out more and listen to people outside his comfort zone … because whoever he’s talking to doesn’t know squat, apparently.

And another thing that set me off – I was watching Greta Van Susteren the other night and she had on Sarah Palin. I haven’t listened to Sarah Palin in quite some time so I was quite shocked at how stupid she sounded. I mean, I’ve never thought she was a rocket scientist, but I’ve always admired her courage to stand up and say it like it is and to try and bring this country back to it’s founding principles. So imagine my surprise when she started spouting off about how we need to get rid of Akin and if he doesn’t step down, then bring a third party in the mix.

Is she high?!?! Bringing in a third party will almost certainly secure a win for the Obama-Nation that’s in the office right now. I can’t even believe she suggested that. What a loon! And just listening to her … she stammered and faltered and sounded like she had drunk too many Monster drinks. I was honestly surprised.

All of this to say – I’m disappointed in the Republican reaction to Akin’s stupid comment. I don’t understand why they didn’t just say, “Well, that was a stupid thing to say,” and then turn their focus back onto the issues at hand. This is why the Republicans do not win as much as they should – because they lack any sort of backbone when it comes to standing firm on issues. The minute it gets difficult or uncomfortable, they start flailing their arms and acting like loons in order to try and please everyone and they just come off looking weak, incompetent and like complete idiots.

Republicans, for the love of God, grow a pair, won’t you?

DUDE!! Paul Ryan for V.P.?? Mama likes!

I’ve always liked Paul Ryan. I like him mainly because he’s not afraid to say how it is – he not only tells people how it is, he spells it out without being condescending. He also has a backbone – which I admire, especially in today’s society when people seem to be afraid to say “BOO” for fear of being labeled a racist or a bigot.

And for those out there that think having Ryan on the ticket is going to hurt Romney because of his tough “stance” on Medicare? Check out this excerpt from CBS’ interview with Romney and Ryan Sunday.

“There’s only one president that I know of in history that robbed Medicare, $716 billion to pay for a new risky program of his own that we call Obamacare,” Romney said.

“What Paul Ryan and I have talked about is saving Medicare, is providing people greater choice in Medicare, making sure it’s there for current seniors. No changes, by the way, for current seniors, or those nearing retirement. But looking for young people down the road and saying, “We’re going to give you a bigger choice.” In America, the nature of this country has been giving people more freedom, more choices. That’s how we make Medicare work down the road.”

Ryan added, “My mom is a Medicare senior in Florida. Our point is we need to preserve their benefits, because government made promises to them that they’ve organized their retirements around. In order to make sure we can do that, you must reform it for those of us who are younger. And we think these reforms are good reforms. That have bipartisan origins. They started from the Clinton commission in the late ’90s.”

Yep. That clearly sounds like a program intended to push granny off the cliff … oh wait … *snort* PolitiFact has dubbed ‘Republicans voted to end Medicare’ the 2011 Lie of the Year. And Democrats are deathly afraid of privatizing Medicare because that would mean they wouldn’t be able to siphon off funds in order to pay for their socialized disaster that is commonly known as ObamaCare.

Yep, this election season just got INTERESTING. Finally – a ray of hope. I’m not a big Romney fan, I personally think he’s a watered-down version of Obama, but with Ryan at his side, perhaps he’ll be the conservative voice of reason this country needs.

What kind of country do we want to have?

We can turn this thing around. Real solutions can be delivered. But, it will take leadership. And the courage to tell you the truth.

ADDED: And for the record? I honestly don’t expect Medicare to even be available in another twenty years when I finally (and there’s some question I will even WANT to) retire. I think people who think everything is going to be the same, like it is today, RIGHT NOW, lives in an alternate universe. Hence the reason my husband and I are working our asses off to prepare for our futures. We have no one to rely on but ourselves. Medicare will not only be changed in twenty years, I seriously wonder if it’ll exist at all. Do you?
