Xcstasy Project – First Excerpt

5 Apr

The women were coarse with their body language and crude with their speech. Many called out invitations to try and entice the male clientele complete with certain raunchy acts included in the package and for no extra charge. Dani tried to pretend that she belonged with the other women, but just couldn’t bring herself to release her inhibitions and assume such tacky behavior. She wasn’t a stranger to being rude when the occasion called for it, but she could never be as brassy as these women.

Was it not possible to have one iota of class in this industry? Wouldn’t men find a classy hooker sexier than say a hooker who openly displayed her wares as if sprawled on top of a display case at a farmer’s market?

Dani had nearly reached the end of the block. The number of people had significantly thinned out and she hadn’t spotted one women who even remotely resembled Cali. Even though she would have been horrified if she had had happened to find Cali among the flock of vultures she just walked through, she couldn’t help but feel a momentary flicker of pride – her sister would have easily stood out among all of those other women. It wasn’t so much her outward beauty that set her apart, but rather, her sense of confidence in herself. She had always envied Cali’s confidence and often wondered where she got it from. It certainly hadn’t come from their mother, who was often lounging on the living room couch, the TV remote control in one hand and a Bud Lite in the other hand – she would easily sell her soul for a joint. It likely didn’t come from their father, who neither of them knew since he took off shortly after Cali was born.

It had to have come from her. She had been the one to raise Cali when their mother was too drunk to know her own name (which was pretty much all the time) and she had worked very hard to try and shield her little sister from their dysfunctional family. She had made sure she got up every morning and got her ready for school. She made sure she had a nutritious lunch every day, even if it meant she had to sacrifice her own meal to make it happen. She encouraged Cali to get involved in extra-curricular activities and she always made sure their mother never knew what they were up to so she couldn’t show up and ruin things for them. She had stood proudly off to one side and watched as her little sister received an honors award for her good grades on graduation day.

She had also been the one to call the police when Cali disappeared three months ago.

This is an excerpt from my 2011 Script Frenzy project. Yes. I realize this is not a script. Yes. I realize the Script Frenzy project is for screenwriters. I’m being a rebel. You can keep track of my word count in the sidebar. I’m recording pages at Script Frenzy which translates (loosely) into 100 pages for 50,000 words.

This basically gives you an idea of where my story is going. A woman goes deep undercover to try and find her baby sister, who has been missing for three months. Though dangerous and deadly, the experience is intoxicating and Dani finds herself being pulled further and further into this alternate world. The big question is, will she willingly get herself out of it or will a lone cop be forced to go in after her?

This project is dirty and sexy and I’m not sure it will ever see the light of day (at least under my real name, perhaps a pen name). But it’s a concept that I’ve been wanting to play around with for some time, so I’m taking advantage of Script Frenzy to flush it out.
