It made an impression, apparently.

MK first started playing in six grade – he was 11 (he’s 13 now). We put him in weekly private lessons for about a year and a half, but we sort of felt like he wasn’t learning anything new with his teacher so pulled him. But he has both band AND jazz band (jazz band is an actual class!) so he gets plenty of practice at school.

Up until that point, he hadn’t expressed an interest in music. Then, in six grade, they gave the kids a chance to take a band class and try various instruments until one of them “stuck.” GD wasn’t interested in even trying but MK fell in love with the saxophone immediately and has been playing ever since. I have to say, our school system has an AWESOME music program.

I would suggest just sort of making instruments available to your daughter and see if she’s interested. You might also check into her school to see what sort of music programs they offer.
