Giveaway: Father’s Day Journal

June 10, 2008 by Karen

**Just leave a comment and tell me one (or more) great things about your man/dad.

A few days ago, I mentioned a giveaway.

I know, I know. I told you I was going to ease up on the giveaways, and I WILL, right after this one. :D

Father’s Day is coming up. Duh, right? Well, I’m a big fan of filling out the memory journals, you know the ones, the pretty hardback books that you fill in the answers to all sorts of life questions? Yeah, those. They’re awesome. Can you imagine coming across a journal your grandparent, or even your parent left behind? Talk about a touching reminder of that person.

So … I thought it would be fun to give away a memory journal about dad.

Now wait, I know what you’re thinking. “Dad?? I’m lucky if I get the man to talk at all, let alone reminiscing about his past.”

Right. Well, what if you bribed him with …? I don’t know, you fill in the blank. You know your man/dad better than I do.

Or, if the bribe doesn’t work, play the guilt card. “But honey,” as you bat your pretty lashes at him, “think of the kids. Think how much FUN they will have reading over your entries later in life. You’ll be a hero!”

The hero thing seems to work sometimes, too. ;)

Seriously, it might be hard to get your man/dad to particpate in this book, but he might if you sit down with him and coax him to remember things (or write it down for him). I’m betting the time he spends with you is a motivation for him to fill this book out, too, and think of the memories you’re creating by doing this with him.

I know whenever my husband talks about his early years or shares funny stories from his past, our boys are just RIVETED and love hearing about what he was like before he became their dad. When I asked my own husband if he would fill something like this out? I received a “no.” But when I said, “I’ll write it down for you,” I got a “okay.”

See? The men in our lives just want to spend time with us. What a great way to spend a few hours documenting his past!

Have I convinced you? Excellent. Then if you would like a chance to win A Father’s Legacy

for your man/dad, then leave a comment and list one thing that is awesome about your man/dad. Just one (or more, if you want to). I’m sure you can come up with one thing. *smile*

I’ll announce the winner (and notify him/her through email, please supply a valid email address) using the random generator on June 16th.

Spread the word. Either copy and paste the code below, or copy the graphic to your server and link to this URL: http://writefromkaren.wordpress.com/2008/06/09/giveaway-fathers-day-journal

Not entering:) but did promote this. Great giveaway! I did order a couple of the books you wrote about a couple days ago — that are similiar to this, that are “about me” kind of books. Love these kinds of books!

Thanks for the shout out, Carolyn! And have fun with the “about me” books. They really are a blast to fill out and you learn so much about yourself in the process!

My husband is the hardest working man I know. He is on his feet 14 hours a day, everyday and never complains. I have so much love and respect for that man. Everytime I see him and our son together, it makes my heart leap with joy. :)

My husband is a fantastic father. He spends most of every weekend playing with the kids. I appreciate the time to myself and he loves getting time to just be Dad.

Well, at 58 yrs. old he still finds the time and energy after a 60 hour work week to rollerblade with our 8 yr. old….I think that’s pretty amazing!

My Dad, who is a heart patient and a chauffer for my sister and mother, babysits my girls so I can work part-time.
